OCAD U students to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa in May

In May 2020, OCAD University’s Faculty of Art will bring acclaimed South African visual activist Zanele Muholi to Toronto, with special engagements at OCAD U and throughout the city. OCAD U students enrolled in the GEP course will engage with the artist during their Toronto residency, then travel to Johannesburg, South Africa to visit the artist’s studio and gallery, to connect with artist networks abroad, and to witness first-hand the making of an international art practice.

OCAD U participates in eCampusOntario Micro-Certification Pilot Project

The Office of Research and Innovation, with support from the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers (CEAD), and in partnership with the Faculty of Curriculum Development Centre and the Office of Continuing Studies, have been awarded $25,000 to participate in eCampusOntario’s Micro-Certification Pilot Project.

Onsite Gallery ̶ CodeX: playable & disruptive futurist eArt

On January 8, more than 450 visitors enjoyed the opening night of Onsite Gallery’s latest exhibition, CodeX: playable & disruptive futurist eArt (running through April 25, 2020). The exhibition, curated by Tom Barker, examines how society is influenced by technology, innovation and design.

OCAD U celebrates campus revitalization milestone

These descriptions come to mind when talking about the newly renovated Fabrication Centre at 100 McCaul St.

“Today, we celebrate an exciting milestone as part of our Creative City Campus plan, which includes the revitalization and expansion of our core campus on McCaul St.,” said Dr. Sara Diamond, president and vice-chancellor of OCAD University, in welcoming guests to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Centre on Feb. 25.

Ana Serrano selected as OCAD U’s new President and Vice-Chancellor

OCAD U will welcome Ana Serrano as President and Vice-Chancellor on July 1, 2020.

Currently Chief Digital Officer of the Canadian Film Centre (CFC), Serrano has a track record as a global leader and visionary in digital media. She was winner of the Digital Media Trailblazing Award at the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards and has more than 20 years’ experience building award-winning digital products, securing public and private sector investment, creating strategic alliances and starting new ventures.

Dear Colleagues:

With warmer weather on the horizon, many of us are gearing up for a rewarding and eventful spring at OCAD U.

The new year kicked off with some exciting news and events. The University announced the selection of Ana Serrano as the new president and vice-chancellor, beginning July 1. A global leader and visionary in digital media, I’m confident that Ana will steer OCAD U into a new era of expansion and innovation.
