Location

Room 322 @ 230 Richmond St. W.

Workshop facilitator Julia Course teaches strategies to relax and prepare your mind and body for a presentation, connect your voice with gestures, hook your audience with a compelling ‘opener’ and rehearse techniques to minimize performance anxiety. As a professional actor with a background in academia, Julia is passionate about the “storytelling” of research — how students can borrow from the toolbox of an actor to captivate an audience.

This dynamic session is suitable for graduate students wanting to enhance presentation skills or participating in any knowledge translation communication challenge (the 3MT® competition).

Julia Course holds an honours B.A. from the Department of Dramatic Arts and a minor in English Language and Literature from Brock University. Awarded a SSHRC grant in 2006, she continued her studies at The School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph. Under the supervision of playwright Judith Thompson she completed her M.A. in dramatic literature and theory. Julia is also a graduate of the acting program at the National Theatre School of Canada, and has been an ensemble member of the acting company at the Shaw Festival in Niagara on the Lake since 2010.

Free. All grad students welcome. REGISTRATION required.  Limited space. RSVP to gradstudies@ocadu.ca
