Experiential Learning Centre in the Rosalie Sharp Pavilion

Renovations of the Rosalie Sharp Pavilion (115 McCaul St.) are underway. OCAD U’s new Centre for Experiential Learning is anticipated to open in the Fall of 2018. The Centre will also be the new home of the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers (currently located in 49 McCaul St.), student working and gathering spaces, and thesis space for fourth-year students. The Experiential Learning Task Force, led by Vice-Provost, Students & International Deanne Fisher and the Director of the Writing & Learning Centre/Faculty & Curriculum Development Centre, Susan Ferguson, is actively working on refining the program for the project.

George Reid House

Renovations of the George Reid House began in October.  The first phase — involving work on Level 2 to provide two multi-purpose rooms as well as a universal washroom, storage and display — is underway. The next phase, over the Winter 2018 term, will involve renovations of the Foundry and Mouldmaking studios, as well as Level 1 circulation space.  As a result, all of Level 1 will be closed throughout the Winter 2018 term.  Classes normally occurring in these areas have either been rescheduled or accommodated in other locations.  Both Levels 1 and 2 are expected to fully re-open in September of 2018. Read more about the George Reid House renovation.

Fabrication Studios

Consultation with studio management, facilities, associate deans, instructors and technicians, and schematic design is underway for the Fabrication Studios on Level 1 of 100 McCaul St.  More information related to the design and construction phasing will become available in the new year.

Creative City Campus Site Strategy – Campus Expansion

The architects and construction manager are in the final phase of exploring various site strategies for the campus expansion element of the Creative City Campus project. The expansion element intends to add approximately 50,000 square feet of new space to the campus.

The two main issues that the team has been working on in this respect are:

  • Heritage considerations associated with the houses at 74 – 76 McCaul St. (location of Aboveground);
  • Views and experience of Butterfield Park, the Sharp Centre and Grange Park.

An update on the site strategy for the campus expansion will be provided in the new year, as well as information on opportunities for students, faculty and staff to provide programming input.

Questions, comments and especially students who are interested in joining the CCC Student Committee are invited to contact Major Capital Projects Lead Joanne Frisch at creativecitycampus@ocadu.ca.

General information about the goals of the Creative City Campus project, as well as ongoing updates, can be found on the CCC website.
