Paul Sloggett Artist Biography 2019

Born in August 1950 in Campbellford Ontario Paul Sloggett moved with his parents to Oshawa Ontario at age four. While attending R.S. McLaughlin High School, Paul was inspired by his high school art teacher who would conduct field trips to Toronto to see the Ontario College of Art’s annual student exhibitions.

Paul applied to OCA and was admitted in 1969 majoring in Drawing and Painting. Upon Graduation, Paul’s work was noticed by several of Toronto’s leading art dealers and his work soon found representation in the very prestigious David Mirvish Gallery. His geometric abstract paintings also captured the interest of several American art dealers and he enjoyed very successful exhibitions in Washington’ California and Texas.

Having completed 33 solo exhibitions throughout Canada and the United States, and has had over 70 group shows to his credit in many countries including China, Germany, France and Italy, he still continues to exhibit his abstract paintings regularly.

Paul has completed several public installations of his work including one in the Promenade Building in New York City. He has received several Ontario Arts Council and Canada Council Grants and in 2001 he was awarded the ” RCA” (Royal Canadian Academy). Paul has found teaching to be a very rewarding part of his practice and has taught at York University and The Ontario College of Art & Design University where he is currently working.
