Save the date for OCAD U’s Project 31 art auction

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 - 5:00am

(Toronto—January 24, 2012) OCAD University will launch Toronto's art auction season with its third annual Project 31 fundraiser in support of art and design students and programs.

One of the city's most accessible art collecting events, Project 31 is a live art auction, held on Thursday, March 29, offering up stunning paintings, photography, limited edition prints, sculpture, textiles and fibre, illustration, jewellery and digital media by OCAD U's talented faculty members, and a few specially invited guests.

What makes the event unique is how Project 31 pairs the support of donating faculty members with specific areas of need at the university.

"We have faculty members who donate the proceeds from the sale of their work toward program-specific scholarships, awards or bursaries for students," says OCAD U Vice-President, Academic and Acting President Sarah McKinnon. "Others choose to direct proceeds toward our library and Learning Zone, our Florence Off-Campus Studies Program, live model hours, or investments of new equipment for specific programs." Since its inception, Project 31 has raised more than $150,000 to support areas of need at the university. "We're very grateful for our community's incredible generosity, and to be able to direct the proceeds from their donations to areas close to their hearts."

The auction a great place for budding art collectors to score great buys, with works selling very affordably anywhere from a few hundred dollars to under $10,000. Through the auction, patrons are able to access work by OCAD U's award-winning faculty members - a pool of creative talent found nowhere else in Canada - while enriching the learning experience for the next generation of artists and designers.

This year's auction includes work by Sandra Altwerger, Catherine Beaudette, Rudolf Bikkers, Philippe Blanchard, George Boileau, Robyn Cumming, Judith Doyle, Gary Gray, Lee Henderson, April Hickox, Natalka Husar, Chung-Im Kim, Anda Kubis, Anita Kunz, Surendra Lawoti, JJ Lee, Ginette Legarè, Jennifer Long, Laura Millard, Iza Mokrosz, Sarah Nind, Luke Painter, Nicholas and Sheila Pye, Jon Rafman, John Scott, Pete Smith, Vladimir Spicanovic, Peter Sramek, Gary Taxali, Jon Todd and Sylvia Whitton.

This year's auctioneer is Stephen Ranger, Vice President Business Development at Waddington's.

Art with Heart Auction

Art with Heart Auction
Tuesday, October 8, 2013 - 4:00am

The 20th Annual Art With Heart Auction, a fundraiser for Casey House with work by OCAD U faculty and alumni

Over the course of 20 years, Art with Heart has grown into Casey House’s most significant single source of non-government funding for our community programs that include home nursing care, outreach clinics and other health care supports for people living with advanced HIV/AIDS.

Twenty-five years ago, people living with HIV/AIDS were commonly cut off from their communities of support, from friends and loved ones, because of stigma and ill-informed fear. From the start, Casey House was different.

When the first resident was brought to Casey House in March 1988, our receptionist marched past the ambulance attendants in their protective gear, reached down to the man on the stretcher, and welcomed him with an embrace. “Welcome to Casey House,” she famously said. “I think you’re going to like it here.”

And so began the story of Casey House – a story of love and compassion, of a community bringing hope and healing into the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS.

It’s a story that continues today, thanks to you. Thank you for your love and support. Please bid generously.
