Apathy Action

Wednesday, March 11, 2015 - 8:15pm to Saturday, April 4, 2015 - 8:15pm

APATHY/ACTION brings together two projects that respond to incidents of idleness and alienation on campus. Nyssa Komorowski and Megan Yetman operate the front gallery as an open publications studio, and as their production space for the Apathy issue of Patterns Magazine.  The back gallery is a social space informed by interventions by Matt Apedaile, who produces DIY furniture in his painting studio to encourage sociability amongst his peers. Come make, meet, discuss, organize and socialize! Or, like, don’t. Whatever.

Extended Building Hours at 100 McCaul Street

Wednesday, February 25, 2015 - 5:00am

Beginning Monday, March 2, OCAD University will open 100 McCaul (including the Sharp Centre) 24 hours/7 days a week for a six-week period.

These extended 24/7 building hours end on Monday, April 13 at midnight.

Please note the following:

  • Access is for current OCAD University students only (remember to bring your OCAD U ID)
  • The 24/7 access will be interrupted on Saturday, March 28 as OCAD University participates in Earth Hour (details will be circulated).
  • Access is to areas that are normally open during extended hours and do not require supervision by staff or a technician. Please check the website for hours of specific Shops and Studios
  • Students can access desktop computers, scanners and black and white printing on Level 3 and Level 6 in 100 McCaul.
  • Please note that desktops are erased nightly at 1:45 a.m. Desktops will not delete accounts while students are logged in, and as well, it will not delete the user who logged in 45 minutes prior to the wipe time of 1:45 a.m. IT Services recommends that students use Google Drive. More than 450 students are actively using Google Drive, and OCAD U Students receive unlimited storage from Google Drive.
  • Your safety is our priority. To this end, any student who appears to be too tired or distracted to use shop or studio equipment safely — either at night, or the next day -- will be instructed to leave
  • We will have Security circulating the building. Please report any safety concerns to the front desk.

Thanks to everyone for your cooperation in making the extended building hours possible. Questions can be directed Associate Vice-President, Students, Deanne Fisher.

Earth Hour

Earth hour logo with a globe formed into the number 60
Sunday, March 29, 2015 - 12:30am to 1:30am

Part of Sustainability Month @ OCAD U

Earth Hour originated as an event in Sydney, Australia in 2007, as businesses and households turned off their lights for one hour to send a powerful national and global message that it is possible to take action on global warming.

OCAD University will power down on Saturday, March 29 for one hour starting at 8:30 p.m. as part of Earth HourOCAD U will be closing at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday March 28 with the exception of the Sharp Centre for Design, 100 McCaul, 60 McCaul, and the Graduate Gallery at 205 Richmond closing at 7:30pm. The campus will re-open at noon on Sunday, March 29.

OCAD U is proud to participate, and will do so by turning off all lights and powering down all non-essential equipment in order to make the most impact in reducing energy consumption. We strongly encourage everyone to turn off all computers, monitors and other related devices (if you don’t already do so) before you leave the office on Friday, March 27.

Earth Hour is an event everyone can participate in — at home, at work, at school — anywhere. Simply turn out the lights on Saturday, March 28 for an hour or more starting at 8:30 p.m.

This event is part of a month-long series of sustainability events at OCAD University called sMarch.

Change in building identification system

Wednesday, February 4, 2015 - 9:30pm

OCAD University is changing the way buildings and rooms are identified across campus as we transition to Project Chroma, the new student information, HR and payroll system. The resulting changes will clarify room locations and improve campus navigation while accommodating future expansion.

Each building will be assigned new identification. Instead of referring to buildings by number the new system will use letters.

Example:

  • 205 Richmond St. W. (formerly building #7) becomes RHA
  • Room 7-320 becomes RHA 320
  • Alternately, it may be referred to as 205 Richmond St., room 320

100 McCaul St. room numbers will not change. The building identification will become MCA.

New signage will be gradually deployed as required and is being coordinated by Facilities Planning & Management.

Please refer to the campus map and building list for more information.
