Hullmark Developments and the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers are excited to announce the Ossington Public Exhibition Career Launcher for senior students and recent graduates from the Faculty of Art.

The exhibition will open in April 2019 at 12 Ossington St. Toronto. The selected proposal will be mounted in a boutique-like space with large window opening out to the busy Ossington street. Due to current access restriction at the building, curators are encouraged to propose projects that can be experienced from the outside. Selected proposal will receive a project support of $ 2,500 from the CEAD. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be Faculty of Art upper-year students or recent graduates from OCADU in 2017 or 2018.
  • Proposal must have at least one (1) designated curator.
  • Proposal must be a group show exhibiting at least three (3) artists. 
  • Curators cannot be exhibiting artists.
  • Proposal must commit to paying minimum artist’s fees per CARFAC schedules or higher. 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Full contact information (Name, phone, and email), and a confirmation of eligibility. 
  • One-page curatorial statement.
  • CVs and bios for all artists and curators.
  • Maximum 10 support images in jpeg following naming format: 01_ExhibitionTitle_ArtistName.jpeg
  • An image list including: artist name, title, year, medium, size/ duration (for media work). 
  • Budget proposal.

The Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers (CEAD) is excited to announce the return of the Career Launcher Fund for students graduating in 2019.

This fund supports activities relating to your early career success as you transition out of school. Eligible activities could range from participating in GradEx 104, attending residencies and workshops, or presenting your work outside of school.

Proposed expenses must be specific and could include anything that is important to advancing your career success. Special attention will be given to proposals that take into consideration creating an exceptional presentation of your work at GradEx 104 as well as the numerous privileges and access that end once you leave school, such as facilities, community, and mentorship. 

Proposed expenses must be specific and could be up to $500 (minimum requested amount - $100).

SUGGESTED ELIGIBLE EXPENSES:

  • Exhibition assistance (i.e: wall preparation, lightings, easel/ plinth rental, didactic material, transportation, etc.)
  • Short-term facility & equipment rental fees
  • Production expenses
  • Membership fees
  • Submission fees
  • Ticket and attendance fees
  • Professional development and skill building workshop fees
  • + much more !

INELIGIBLE EXPENSES INCLUDE:

  • Travel costs
  • Event and hospitality expenses
  • Accommodation or long-term studio rental costs
  • Equipment purchases
  • Proposals covered by other OCADU funding programs like the Big Ideas Fund, emergency loans, SU Project Grants, etc.

RATE: $16.5/ hour for 35 hours/ week

TERM: Full-time, May - August 2019 (16 weeks)

The Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce the return of the Parks Canada Career Launcher for Photography students. Students are invited to apply for this opportunity and a successful applicant will be employed at Rouge Park - Canada’s first national urban park. The recipient will split their time between the office and the filed; processing images in the Rouge National Urban Park photo library, shooting imagery and doing graphic design.  

Successful applicant will also receive a $500 equipment grant from the CEAD. 

A rich assembly of natural, cultural and agricultural landscapes, Rouge National Urban Park is home to amazing biodiversity, some of the last remaining working farms in the Greater Toronto Area, Carolinian ecosystems, Toronto’s only campground, one of the region’s largest marshes, unspoiled beaches, amazing hiking opportunities, and human history dating back over 10,000 years, including some of Canada’s oldest known Indigenous sites.

Parks Canada is excited to work towards the establishment of Canada’s first national urban park – Rouge National Urban Park – in the Greater Toronto Area.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be a graduating Photography student or a recent Photography graduate from the class of 2018
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license
    • Available to hold a 5 day week position between May and August 2019
    • Available to work on some weekends
    • Willing to undergo a basic security screening
    • Open to wearing a uniform for special events 
    • Social media skills and experience is desired 
    • Interests and skills in videography and graphic design will be considered as an asset

    The Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair Career Launcher award for students in the Illustration, Print/Publication and Material Art & Design programs. Eligible students will have the opportunity to exhibit in the 58th year of this annual event; Canada's largest and longest-running juried contemporary outdoor art fair. TOAF was established to nurture artistic excellence and an entrepreneurial spirit, and to showcase contemporary work to the general public. This free public event showcases works by over 350 exhibitors and attracts 115,000 visitors each year to Nathan Phillips Square.

    This is an amazing opportunity to get yourself out there, nurture an audience, and sell your work! Student applications will be reviewed by the TOAF jury for final selection.

    The Museum Services & Communications Associate will work directly with staff to enhance the Museum experience for our visitors and will support the Communication department in executing the Museum’s communication and marketing program; communicating the vision, mission and programming of the TMC to targeted diverse audiences.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

    Museum Services (50% of time)

    • Greets visitors and provides reception services, including handling cash and directing general inquiries.
    • Performs opening and closing security routines for institutional programs and facility rental events and security sweeps during operating hours.
    • Serves as an advocate for the visitor while simultaneously promoting the welfare of the Museum.
    • Assist Shop volunteers in all aspects of providing exceptional customer service, including product knowledge and merchandising ideas.
    • Participate in staff meetings, health & safety training initiatives and support overall office management.

    Communications (50% of time)

    • Research best practises in digital and online marketing and community engagement and make recommendations to the Communications department.
    • Originate and implement cross-promotional relationships with other key cultural institutions and businesses.
    • Assist in the creation of a wide variety of communication tools, including news releases, reports, briefing materials, interpretive documents, and other communication material to advocate and support all TMC programs. 
    • Support and develop content for social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and website.
    • Work with staff to identify potential media opportunities and stories.

    Other:

    • Works to further the goals and objectives of the Museum and participates actively in the life of the institution.  
    • Acts in a respectful, accountable, and generous manner towards other staff, volunteers, and the general public.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must have graduated from OCADU in 2017 or 2018.
    • Excellent communications, interpersonal and analytical skills, including demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
    • Advanced customer service skills, knowledge of cash handling, retail sales, office administration and Experience working with volunteers.
    • Experience in media relations, comfortable in dealing with the press and social media.
    • Self-motivated; ability to problem solve and manage workflows and deadlines independently. 
    • Impeccable attention to detail, adaptability, multi-tasking and time management. 
    • Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite, POS, and e-mail).
    • Smart Serve, First Aid and CPR certificates (assets). 
    • Prior art museum experience and knowledge of museum operations, standards, practices, and procedures (asset).
