TERM: Full-time, January - December 2019

The Toronto Biennial of Art (TBA) is accepting applications for a full-time position of Curatorial Assistant. An ideal candidate must have a view to inclusivity and diversity, building capacity and changing the landscape of future Canadian leaders in arts and culture. The Curatorial Intern will gain significant, hands-on curatorial experience through numerous training and learning opportunities with the Senior Curator and Curator, as well as with the broader TBA team; and cross-departmental exposure to all aspects of the biennial, including logistics, production, publications, finance, communication, partnerships, and fundraising.

On view from September–December 2019, the Toronto Biennial of Art, launching infall 2019, will be Canada’s newest biennial of contemporary art. Taking place along the waterfront in unexpected venues and public spaces and in collaboration with not-for-profit galleries, museums, community organizations, and educational institutions across the city, the Biennial will present Canadian and international art within the complex creative, cultural, social, and political context of Toronto.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting the curatorial team in all aspects of their projects, including: conception, research, implementation, programming, artists visits, etc.
  • Supporting the education team with programming when relevant and as needed.
  • Conducting curatorial research for the curatorial team.
  • Supporting artists directly in the implementation of their projects as needed.
  • Assisting with welcoming artists to Toronto: on-boarding, welcome package, navigating the city, etc.
  • Providing production and coordination support to the curatorial and production teams as needed: installation and striking, contractor prep and coordination, equipment research, etc.
  • Providing administrative support to the curatorial team and managing daily tasks as they arise, as well as acting as an advocate for and providing tours of the Biennial.
  • Assisting all aspects of TBA events: preparation, setup, strike down, post-event reports, and etc.
  • Acting as an advocate for and providing tours of the Biennial.
  • Numerous training and learning opportunities with the Senior Curator and Curator, as well as with the broader TBA team.
  • Cross-departmental exposure to all aspects of the biennial, including logistics, production, publications, finance, communication, partnerships, and fundraising.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have graduated from OCADU in 2017 or 2018.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience incuratorial, museum studies, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated understanding of digital communications and marketing platforms.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated organization and project management skills.
  • Required: MAC OS; Microsoft OS; Microsoft Office Suite; Adobe Creative Suite; email.
  • Assets: Sketchup; languages spoken other than English; ability to manage engaging visual content for digital platforms, including websites, video and social media; Driver’s Licence.

Trinity Square Video is accepting applications for the part-time position of Programming & Outreach Assistant. This position will help support and build the organization’s presentation and education initiatives. The Programming and Outreach Assistant will work within allocated budgets as well as identify potential external funding sources, including partnerships, collaborations, cultural agencies, foundations, and others-to supplement existing resources where possible. 

Trinity Square Video is a not-for-profit artist run centre and exhibition space. Since 1971, Trinity Square Video has supported community organizations and artists from diverse backgrounds whose practice incorporates the use of electronic moving images in their work, by commissioning, exhibiting, training and making equipment and integration services available. 

Trinity Square Video produces work and is situated on the traditional and unceded territories of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, the Huron-Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nations. Trinity Square Video is committed to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility in representing and recognizing the community it serves.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have graduated from OCADU in 2017 or 2018 
  • Must be interested in assorted media-art practices including single, multi-channel, interactive, VR/AR/XR, projection mapping, etc. 
  • Must be interested in curatorial or programming activities (technical knowledge in media-based equipment and installation is an asset) 
  • Must be interested in community engagement and outreach 
  • Must have superior organizational skills and written communicational skills, for the purpose of exhibition and marketing texts, grant application, and social media

Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art and the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers are excited to announce the new Career Launcher opportunity for a 6-week Self-Directed Research Residency. 

Approaching its 20th anniversary, Prefix ICA invites emerging collectives and individual artists working with or around photography to propose new works that engage with the gallery’s programming and publishing history. Selected applicants will work collaboratively in a self-directed research residency that will take place between November 12th and December 21st, 2018. The research will culminate in an open studio session at the end of the residency. 

With the support of the Prefix team, the residents will have access to the Prefix gallery, reference library, programming archives and a shared budget of $500. 

Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art is a public art gallery and arts publishing house based in Toronto, Canada. Founded in 1999 by Scott McLeod in consultation with a national advisory council, the institution fosters the appreciation and understanding of contemporary photographic, media and digital arts through exhibitions, publications, public programmes and related activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have graduated from OCADU in 2017 or 2018, or be a current upper year student with a major or minor in Photography. 
  • Interest in contemporary photographic, media and digital arts.
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative. 
  • Interest in working collectively. 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • CV(s) for each applicant/member of the collective.  

    A letter of intent that outlines:

  • The collective’s mission OR artist’s statement for independent applicant;
  • The project or theme(s) that will be explored during the self-directed residency;
  • Experience in working collectively or in a collaborative environment;
  • Interest in working with Prefix ICA.
  • 5–10 images of previous work with an accompanying image list. Each file should be in jpeg format and no larger than 500K (0.5MB). Please number and identify each file with artist’s last name and title of work [01_Last Name_Title.jpg].

Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival is a not-for-profit organization devoted to celebrating the art and profession of photography with an annual festival in May and year-round programming in the CONTACT Gallery.

  • Implement and maintain an image management system that includes the following tasks: 
  • File corresponding caption and credit information 
  • Manage and organize all image files for the Festival catalogue, website and press 
  • Convert images for a variety of outputs (print, web, large-format print) 
  • Respond to press requests for images from CONTACT’s PR firm 
  • Oversee production of exhibition quality prints as needed 
  • Set up files for large-format printing
