Laird McMurray is the president of Laird FX, a specialty prototype design company that engineers and manufactures devices and special effects for film, (Pacific Rim, Total Recall, The Incredible Hulk) television commercial theater and live events.

Laird's entertaining and informative talk will demonstrate and delight you in some of the ways that the industry innovatively reimagines materials.

Join us in the Material Innovation Centre on Wednesday March 2nd! Franziska Brand + Sarah Paul will talk FELT!

Felt is one of the first fabrics ever to be created by mankind. In its original natural version felt is made from 100% sheep and lama wool and has a magnificent history of uses in the world of culture, art and design.

The traditional warmth and beauty of the material is grounded in ethics and sustainability since the animals are not harmed in the process of the creation of the material. Felt has its application form clothing, accessories, furniture, surface applications to specialized industrial products with exceptional acoustic, thermal and abrasive properties.
