DESCRIPTION

The Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce the return of Toronto Outdoor Art Fair Career Launcher award for students in the Illustration, Material Art & Design, Photography and Printmaking/Publications programs. Eligible students will have the opportunity to exhibit in the 59th year of this annual event; Canada's leading juried outdoor art fair. TOAF was established to nurture excellence and an entrepreneurial spirit, and to showcase contemporary work to the general public. This free public event showcases works by over 360 exhibitors and attracts 130,000 visitors each year.

TOAF has always reserved a portion of the Fair to emerging and student artists and is proud to have played a role in the emerging careers of many well-known Canadian artists including: Barbara Astman, Edward Burtynsky and many others. This is an amazing opportunity to get yourself out there, nurture an audience, and sell your work! Student applications will be reviewed by the TOAF jury for final selection.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a ILLU, MAAD, Photography or PRNT/PUBL student in their graduating year (2020)
  • Multidisciplinary artists can submit up to 3 different applications in 3 different categories (see below for category descriptions)
  • You must apply individually under your own name

CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS

  • 3D Works - Original works that are three-dimensional, using additive or reductive techniques, including freestanding sculptures, reliefs, assemblages etc. created using either traditional or experimental materials.
  • 2D Works – original works that are two-dimensional, created using one or more physical material, including Drawing, Printmaking, Illustration, Collage, and Mixed Media works, etc.
  • Craft & Design - hand crafted objects (functional or decorative) created using fine craft and/or industrial design practices including, Ceramics, Glass, Jewellery, Textile, Wood/Furniture, etc. Multi-disciplinary and/or hybrid practices welcomed. Exclude machine-screen patterns or other forms of mass production, and factory produced wearable items regardless of additional modification.
  • Painting - works created using oil, acrylic, encaustic, watercolour, inks, etc.
  • Photography & Digital Media - Photographic prints made from the artist's original image, and/or digitally manipulated images created from original artist images, and/or other sourced material.

OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

You will work directly with Ubisoft’s Lead Graphic Designer and Creative Services team. The successful candidate would be a strong visual communicator who wants to be part of a creative, dynamic, and innovative environment. You will design creative assets for web, social media, video, presentations, events, swag, studio space, and print that inspire and captivate the Ubisoft teams. You will work closely with other members of the communications and studio teams on design projects.

TERM

  • Full-time 4 months paid internship

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Recent OCAD U grad (2019) or current student graduating in spring 2020
  • Strong graphic design experience
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), PowerPoint, and Keynote are required
  • Demonstrated experience designing for at least some of the following mediums: web, social media, video, presentations, events, swag, and print
  • Open to direction, can accept feedback and acts on it; adapts to change
  • Brings a positive attitude and desire to work collaboratively with other members of the communications and studio teams
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to demonstrate creativity, originality and resourcefulness when searching for solutions

Nice to haves

  • Previous experience in a creative industry considered an asset
  • Familiarity with both PC and Mac environments would be helpful (but not mandatory)
  • Understanding of design within brand guidelines would be considered an asset
  • Passion for the video game industry
  • Basic photography skills would be a plus
  • Illustration skills and/or an interest in illustration would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere and/or After Effects would be a plus
  • Experience with WordPress (or similar CMS), HTML or CSS considered an asset

The exciting opportunity to create new work and participate in a dynamic public event is open to upper year students or recent graduates of the Integrated Media, DPXA, and Digital Futures programs. OCAD U students and recent alumni are invited to apply for this paid opportunity by submitting a project proposal for a new, or newly updated, digital video artwork.

Long Winter, Toronto’s all-ages, pay-what-you-can seasonal series of underground and DIY music, visual art, installation, reading, food, and dance (and more) have partnered with the Integrated Media and Digital Painting & Expanded Animation program, and the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers to announce the Long Winter Career Launcher. The exciting opportunity to create new work and participate in a dynamic public event is open to upper year students or recent graduates of the Integrated Media, DPXA, and Digital Futures programs.

OCAD U students and recent alumni are invited to apply for this paid opportunity by submitting a project proposal for a new, or newly updated, digital video artwork. The Long Winter team will provide a lively professional venue and large public audience of 600 - 800 for this commissioned work. The selected work will be featured as a projection in one of two upcoming Long Winter events; held at Workman Arts (Dufferin and Dundas) on Feb. 21 and/or Mar. 21, 2020.

Long Winter’s programming team, along with OCAD U Faculty, will select a winning proposal and The Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers will provide a $2,000 production grant/artist fee towards the realization of this outstanding opportunity.

  • Must be a current student or recent graduate (2018 or 2019) of the OCAD U Integrated Media, DPXA, Digital Futures programs.
