Xpace Cultural Centre welcomes applications for the Career Launcher position of Programming Coordinator. The Programming Coordinator works in collaboration with the Director and second Programming Coordinator to manage, plan and execute workshops, events and exhibitions for Xpace’s exhibition spaces. The Programming Coordinator acts as a liaison between the OCAD U student body, local and national arts organizations, artists and the general public for all information pertaining to Xpace.

Xpace Cultural Centre is a not-for-profit artist-run centre supported by the OCAD Student Union. We are dedicated to providing emerging and student artists, designers, curators and art writers with opportunities to showcase their work in a professional setting. Our programming responds to contemporary issues, and the interests and needs of our membership and community.  Xpace is committed to maintaining an anti-oppressive, queer positive environment, welcoming marginalized, racialized and Indigenous folks.



Reporting to the Director, the Programming Coordinator:

  • Coordinates the planning and installation of exhibitions in consultation with the Programming Committee;
  • Coordinates the planning, promotion and implementation of workshop and event programs;
  • Coordinates web and print promotional material;
  • Edits exhibition essays and writes exhibition essays as needed;
  • Outreaches to student populations at OCAD University and other Toronto institutions;
  • Leads occasional art tours for classes and other arts organizations;
  • Creates press releases and disseminates programming information to media, Xpace membership and relevant arts organizations;
  • Ensures that the vision, mandate and objectives of Xpace are carried out through all programming initiatives;
  • Manages the planning, organization and execution of special projects;
  • Oversees interns in collaboration with the second Programming Coordinator and Director;
  • Maintenance and organization of space, supplies and storage;Co-manages and updates the Xpace website and social media as needed;
  • Acts as an ambassador for Xpace and the OCAD Student Union at class visits and OCAD U events. 



  • Must have graduated from OCAD University in 2018 or 2019 (undergraduate or graduate);
  • Excellent administrative, communication, verbal and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge and interest in contemporary visual art, design and art writing;
  • Comfortable working in a Mac environment;
  • Comfortable with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office and Wordpress;
  • Able to work in a collaborative environment;
  • Able to work occasional evening shifts for Xpace events;
  • Experience in exhibition installation, art writing/editing, arts education, media arts skills and/or grant writing will be considered an asset.

An ideal candidate must have a view to inclusivity and diversity, building capacity and changing the landscape of future Canadian leaders in arts, education and culture. The Curatorial Assistant will gain significant, hands-on curatorial, programming and production experience through numerous training and learning opportunities with the Curator, Public Programming and Learning, as well as with the broader TBA team; and cross-departmental exposure to all aspects of the biennial, including logistics, production, publications, finance, communication, partnerships, and fundraising.

FCDC & WLC Student Monitor (Work-Study)

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, Faculty & Curriculum Development Centre (FCDC) and Writing & Learning Centre (WLC), the FCDC & WLC student monitor is responsible for providing friendly, professional reception services for students, faculty, staff and visitors and for providing assistance with daily administrative operations to support both the Writing & Learning Centre and the Faculty & Curriculum Development Centre. The student monitor position is an integral part of the front desk team. FCDC and WLC departments provides campus wide teaching and learning programs and services to the university.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain a welcoming, clean and well-organized reception area; monitor and maintain other common spaces
  • Provide friendly, professional reception services for students, faculty and visitors
  • Provide accurate information about WLC and FCDC programs, services, and policies, refer to print and online resources and provide referrals to other institutional units as required
  • Greet and direct students and/or faculty arriving for events, workshops or appointments and facilitate event registration processes
  • Answer incoming telephone calls, retrieve and forward messages and respond to emails
  • Book student consultation appointments, maintain waitlists, and create and maintain tutoring files as needed
  • In consultation with the Program Coordinator, maintain the blackboard calendar and other displays, create, update and post daily WLC and FCDC signage, and assist with the preparation and distribution of resource materials
  • Assist with daily WLC and FCDC event set up and take down and stock and/or replenish daily program supplies and materials including handouts, brochures and other resource materials
  • Manage the room booking calendar through Outlook with accuracy
  • Use the WLC online booking system, TutorTrac to book and make changes to tutoring appointments daily
  • Create posters, newsletters, and other outreach materials
  • Assist with WLC and FCDC projects and assignments as requested


♣    OCAD University student, preferably second or third year
♣    Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
♣    Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
♣    Punctual, well-organized, and careful attention to detail
♣    Experience providing customer service, reception, or administrative services in a busy work environment
♣    Knowledge of OCAD University programs, services, and resources
♣    Interest in university writing and teaching and learning support services
♣    Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and InDesign required; proficiency in the other Adobe Creative Suite programs an asset
♣    Fluency in a second language an asset 
♣    Demonstrated commitment to the principles of accessibility, equity and diversity, and proven ability to deal effectively with a diverse population
