Hyperreal simulation environments expose spaces and material dynamics at scales and temporalities beyond the limits of human perception. This high resolution accessibility presents depth perceptions that continue to expand human spatial reality. Machinic visions and technological apparatuses, survey, capture, collect and reimage data that simulate new perspectives by providing access to what is beyond human reach and spatial experience. Capturing not only the horizontal frame of the eye as it gazes the surface, but also allowing deeper penetration into vertical space at varying scales and spans of time. This research is interested in investigating the creative implications and future possibilities revealed by this expanded depth of space and the evolving digital technologies that support this new ‘seeing’.
The intent is to develop creative methodologies that map the narratives that both parallel the ‘real’ real as well as intersect with it through hyperreal digital environments. Rewriting and re-representing the world of matter and energy through these new ways of seeing allows for the emergence of new fictions and other futures.
This does not entail merely effecting something within an abstract or virtual space but literally places us in a new relationship with the spatiality of the material world. Digital simulation environments foreground the possibility to make micro or macro realities tangible and comprehensible through technologies that reach deeper than humanly possible.
Another layer of this research is to generate and gather visual content that explores these new spatial territories as aesthetic spaces evoking communication and exchange between otherwise alien worlds. It can perhaps be speculated that human subjectivity, synthetic processes, matter and energy are placed within creative couplings beyond the limitations of their ontological differences. In this context, this research is interested in the creative potential of new modes of seeing facilitated by the digital.
Part of this research includes generating formal images of simulations that capture a kind of vitality in material intelligence expressed in the tendency of material transformations towards decay and dust.
