Call for nominations: Permanent Managers and Permanent Staff for the Board of Governors

Permanent managers and permanent staff (unionized and exempt): consider becoming a member of the OCAD U Board of Governors. Nominations are now open for a two-year term commencing July 1, 2017. Two internal positions are available, one of which is elected from and by permanent managers at OCAD U; and the other, from and by permanent staff (unionized and exempt).

OCAD University’s Board of Governors is responsible for governing and managing the affairs of the university and has the necessary powers to do so, including the power to determine mission, vision and values of the university, appoint and remove the President and Chancellor, approve the annual budget of the university and monitor its implementation, establish administrative and operational policies and procedures, as well as other specific powers. The Board consists of members from the external community as well as executive, management, staff, faculty and student representatives drawn from the OCAD U community.

Nominations are currently open for the following positions on the Board of Governors starting July 1, 2017:

One (1) Permanent Manager position (two-year term)
One (1) Permanent Staff position (two-year term)

2020 Honorary Degree Nominations

The nomination period for OCAD University’s 2020 Honorary Degree is now open, and we invite you to submit your ideas.

Every year at Spring Convocation, OCAD University confers an Honorary Degree upon outstanding individuals who have made a significant contribution to the fields of art, design, and culture; to education; and to the ideals of our University. Submit your suggestions for this, the highest honor offered by our institution.

All members of the OCAD U community, including faculty, staff, students and alumni, are invited to submit a nomination. Please see the nomination form link on this page, as well as a list of past recipients. You may drop the forms in person at 230 Richmond West, Level 11, Office of the President during normal business hours, or via email at jnorthwayfrank@ocadu.ca. Digital signatures will be accepted.

Nominations are due on January 31, 2020 at 5pm EST.

Two candidates, Dr. Victoria Vesna and Dr. James Moy, have been shortlisted for the position of Dean, Faculty of Art, and a third candidate is pending confirmation.
As part of the hiring process each candidate will be on campus attending a series of meetings and will give a public lecture for faculty and students.
Dr. Vesna will be on campus Monday, January 14th and will present in Rm 230 from 2 to 3 pm. The lecture will be followed by a Student Social in Rm 187 from 3:15 to 4 pm.
Dr. Moy will be on campus Friday, January 18 and will present in Rm 190 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. This will be preceded by the Student Social in Rm 187 from 1:15 to 2 pm.

2016 Doug Wright Awards

I’m delighted to announce that several recent OCADU alumni have been nominated for the 2016 Doug Wright Awards, Canada’s premier comic awards.

The Doug Wright Awards were founded in May 2005 as a means of casting light on the wide range of cartoonists and comic artists working across Canada. 

Ted Gudlat (OCADU 2012), OCADU ILLU Program Teaching Assistant Sabrina Scott (OCADU 2012), and Kat Verhoeven (OCADU 2010) are nominees for the 2016 Doug Wright Spotlight Award which recognizes Canadian cartoonists deserving of wider recognition. 

In addition, ILLU instructor Patrick Kyle (OCADU 2009) has been nominated for the Pigskin Peters Award which recognizes experimental, unconventional, and avant-garde Canadian comics.

Inspired Teaching Awards - Call for nominations

Every year, the Faculty & Curriculum Development Centre recognizes teaching excellence in faculty and teaching assistants (TAs) working with undergraduate and graduate students.

The Inspired Teaching Awards are presented to faculty members and TAs whose passion for art and design education has enhanced learning and influenced creative practice. All members of the University community, staff, faculty and students, can submit nominations online until February 29.

Calling all faculty: Cast your vote in OCAD U Senate Elections

Faculty can cast their votes starting Monday April 6, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. noon until Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11:59 p.m.  for candidates to fill faculty area vacancies on the OCAD University Senate. Eligible voters can cast their vote electronically at any time during this period.
