Salad Day!

grOCAD members harvesting greens for Salad Day 2017

Last summer grOCAD celebrated their community garden bounty with a Salad Day event held in the Learning Zone. This year grOCAD will be joined by the Cooking Club, who will be making homemade and delicious salad dressings from scratch.

Join grOCAD and the Cooking Club at the Lambert Lounge in the Main Building at noon then take a walk over to grOCAD’s community garden to harvest greens for the Salad Day event.

It is free event open to all OCAD U Students. RSVPs are encouraged but drop-ins are welcome. Please contact Sarah at scree@ocadu.ca or ocadgrows@gmail.com.

Drop by and enjoy some salad, share gardening stories, or your favourite recipes and checkout some good reads on urban agriculture from the OCAD U Library.

You're invited to join OCAD U Health & Wellness, Campus Life, and student groups for #BellLetsTalk Day on January 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of 100 McCaul St for hot chocolate, tea and treats, freebies and self-care tips. Mental health affects us all. Join the conversation by sharing your ideas for how we can take better care of both ourselves and others, and help end the stigma of mental illness.

On Bell Let’s Talk Day, Bell will support mental health initiatives by donating 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet, social media video view and use of the Facebook frame or Snapchat geofilter. grOCAD Exhibition

grOCAD Exhibition is the latest installation in the Learning Zone. This exhibition highlights grOCAD’s explorations, workshops and on-campus installations focusing on urban agriculture and sustainable practices since the group’s inception in 2011.

grOCAD is one of OCAD University many diverse student groups on campus, with an active interest in community building through plant life.

On exhibit are a small series of colour prints of concept drawings illustrating the creative process behind the works installed on campus, or exhibited at gallery shows. Projects include the Pedal Farm Exhibition, Living Wall, 3rd iteration of Windowfarm, Moss Exhibition, and raised planters constructed during O-days.

The Learning Zone is wheelchair accessible with two Gender-Neutral washrooms..

Critical Engagements – Housing is a Right not a Luxury!

  • City Councillor Ana Bailão (Ward 18 Davenport), Toronto's Housing Advocate and City Council's lead to the National Housing Strategy consultations.
  • Randy McLin, Ontario Coalition Against Poverty 
  • Adam Vaughan, MP (Fort York - Spadina) 

Critical Engagements functions in-between an artist talk/screening, and a workshop to combine these elements to engage the OCAD U student body/faculty and surrounding community on housing issues. The housing crisis and increasing levels of poverty affect all of us. Critical Engagement is a concrete example of artist working with community, for the community. 

This event is organized by the OCAD University Art & Social Change Student Committee with the support of Culture Shifts, the OCAD Student Union and Art & Social Change.

ABOUT ART & SOCIAL CHANGE STUDENT COMMITTEE:
The Art & Social Change Student Committee is a group of OCAD U students and alumni whose goal is to unify social justice and its integration into artistic practice. We put into the forefront urgent matters affecting the student body, staff and faculty on campus. Some of these issues include (but are not limited to) environmental justice, sexual violence, student poverty and housing, combating racism, as well as decolonizing the curriculum. Through various student-led initiatives, we aim to raise awareness of equity and accessibility issues, and build a strong social justice community on campus.
