Journal of Visual & Critical Studies Publication Launch 2019

Please join us in celebrating the unique approaches to art history and visual culture that are being explored by students at OCAD University. The new volume of the Journal of Visual & Critical Studies comprises critical essays, exhibition reviews, and thesis abstracts, and will be available at the launch. Snacks, refreshments, and cake will be provided.

The Publication Launch will take place on the third level of 100 McCaul in the lobby outside room 315 on Friday, May 3rd, from 2-4 p.m.

The Journal of Visual and Critical Studies is produced with the support of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences and School of Interdisciplinary Studies, the Visual and Critical Studies Program, the OCAD U Student Union, and the OCAD U Student Press.

OCAD Student Press Book Sale

The OCAD Student Press, a student collective dedicated to getting good ideas out of the Ontario College of Art & Design, is throwing a used book sale at the Gladstone Hotel in support of their latest student publication, Shift Perspectives. Formerly the precious property of Stephen Fowler, owner of The Monkey’s Paw used bookstore on Dundas St W (http://monkeyspaw.com), the collection of books is perhaps one of the most eclectic offerings you’ll find in the city. The sale will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2008 from 12 to 5pm on the 2nd floor of the Gladstone Hotel. Both OCAD Student Press publications, Shift Positions and Shift Perspectives, will also be on sale throughout the day.

OCAD Shift books:_$20 each (includes a free used book of your choice)

Both OCAD Student Press publications are collections of student essays based on design thesis work done in their final year at OCAD. These publications showcase the eclectic and diverse nature of student research currently being explored at the Ontario College of Art & Design. They are the only OCAD design research collections of the their kind, providing an in depth look into some of the work being done by young up-in-coming Toronto designers.

The OCAD U Student Press is celebrating its win of a limited editions category third place award in the 32nd annual Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada for Shift: Processes, the sixth publication in the Press’s Shift series. The Alcuin Society is a Vancouver based non-profit organization that supports the appreciation of fine books. In addition to the annual book design competition, the Society publishes a journal, Amphora, and organizes lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and field visits on various aspects of the book.

The OCAD U Student Press invites you to join us for the launch of the 6th edition of the Shift series. Shift: Processes looks at the creative methods employed by over 20 OCAD U students and alumni and is divided into 3 sections, Unprocessed, Processed, and Post-Processed.

Join us on September 26 at the OCAD U Student Gallery, 52 McCaul St. from 7-10 PM to celebrate the launch and pick up your copy. Books will be sold at $10 for students and $20 for non-students. We look forward to seeing you there!

ABOUT OCAD U STUDENT PRESS:
The OCAD U Student Press is a student-run group based on a model of dissemination, exploration, cross-disciplinary inclusion and community involvement. In addition to our annual publication Shift, we publish Rivet, a bi-annual publication focusing on experimentation and alternative processes. We also run a series of Workshops throughout the year, and host a Pecha Kucha style lecture series called Function that takes place once in the fall and once in the spring.
