Every year the OCAD U Zine Fair brings together an amazing collection of talent and innovation in alternative publications. This year will be one of our best!
Each day will feature a different group of vendors representing a broad range of making: zines, comics, poetry, independent magazines, prints stickers and so much more. The Zine Library will be hosting button making throughout the event. All proceeds from button making will go to the OCAD Zine Library collection and its initiatives.
This talk will explore a variety of issues in cataloguing zines, including choosing a classification system appropriate for zines, cataloguing software options and the challenges of describing items in this unique special collection.
Learning Zone Librarian Marta Chudolinska has been working with the collection since 2009. In 2017, her team achieved their long-term goal of having an online, open and searchable catalog of the collection, hosted on Artstor’s JSTOR Forum.
The OCAD U Zine Library is an ever-growing collection of self-published and handmade publications located in the OCAD U Library’s Learning Zone. The collection was created to inspire, educate and entertain, to encourage collaboration between OCAD U students and to open the world of zines for readers and creators everywhere.
All are welcome!
Cataloguing the OCAD U Zine Library Collection is part of Research Wednesdays speaker series presented by the OCAD U Library. It's a forum for anyone (undergrad, or graduate students, staff, or faculty) to present in a casual, supportive environment about research activities, collections and more. We apply a broad definition of research which includes a variety of activities within the domains of art, design, libraries and archives. This event is open to all members of the OCAD U community as well as the general public.

This exhibition showcases illustrations and zines which spans Cleopatria Peterson's creative career.
Cleopatria enjoys storytelling using detailed ink and pen illustrations in her artwork and zines, exploring the complexities of experiencing trauma, and of healing through nature, from a perspective of a marginalized person.
Each meticulously inked piece touches back to nature; and how it can heal you. Pages are stand-alone illustrative works or taken from narratives
Cleopatria is a Toronto based illustrator and comic artist, studying Publications at OCAD University.
On at the Learning Zone Gallery until November 20

Proud at OCAD U coordinators, Casey Helm and Teddy Schaub curated this exhibition and here is their perspective on this art show:
The PROUD at OCAD U Exhibition features the work of LGBTQ+ identifying students here at OCAD. Art Exhibition spaces can be inaccessible spaces, especially for those whose identities intersect in different ways. The theme is simple: there is none! The participants were encouraged to bring in work they felt like showing off. PROUD is a community space and focuses on claiming our own space here at OCAD. Copies of the PROUD Community Zine are also available for free in the Learning Zone!
Participants list:

Jazmin Cordon-Ibanez
Rachel Finlay
