Faculty recognized for excellence in teaching

At the Faculty Appreciation Event on Thursday, April 28, six faculty members were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the student learning experience at OCAD University.

The Price Award, in memory of Mamie and J.H. Price, and the Non-Tenured Teaching Award for excellence in teaching. This year’s recipients are:

  • Emma Westecott, assistant professor and director of the game:play lab
  • Suzanne Stein, associate professor and director of the Super Ordinary Lab

Non-Tenured Award:

  • Sambhavi Chandrashekar, Inclusive Design

The Faculty and Curriculum Development Centre’s Inspired Teaching Awards were given to three faculty members:

  • Teaching Assistant: Tatjana Petkovic, Graphic Design
  • Excellence in Teaching First-Year Students: Mary Porter, Faculty of Art
  • Leadership to Advance Teaching: Colleen Reid, Associate Dean, Faculty of Design

The candidates were nominated by students, colleagues and supervisors on the strength of their dedication and passion for teaching and student learning.

 

 

OCAD U Photography alumna and Manager of the Indigenous Visual Culture Student Centre & Services received her award this month
OCAD University is collaborating with the Black Business & Professional Association (BBPA) to provide new opportunities for students. This partnership means up to 20 OCAD U students will obtain memberships to the BBPA, making them eligible for scholarships and mentorship through the association.

Alumni Mark Julien (Illustration 1999) just had his debut graphic novel named on eof the best LGBTQ graphic novels of 2018 by The Advocate Magazine

The newest feature article by Pure Luxury Magazine, a magazine about luxury goods for the Chinese audience. Within the magazine, is an article written with mentions about my painting practice over the last few years, teaching at OCAD, and the Art with Heart event in October at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO).  
OCAD U student, Charlotte Durnford-Dionne, with winning entry.
To celebrate Mickey’s 90th anniversary, Disney Canada partnered with OUTFRONT Media Inc. to hold a “TRUE ORIGINAL” design competition open to OCAD U students. Charlotte Durnford-Dionne, OCAD U student and Montreal artist, won the competition with her six foot Mickey Mouse sculpture. The event was curated by Arts Help, a registered not-for-profit and the largest creative community for artists and visual storytellers.

OCAD University teamed up with Toronto Centre for Community Learning and Development (TCCL&D) to pilot an innovative, hands-on design course. Over a period of three months, a group of second-year industrial design students worked with members of the Regent Park Sewing Studio to design and create ‘made-to-order’ textile goods.
