Nominations open for student positions on the Board of Governors & Senate

Nominations are now being accepted for several student positions on the OCAD University Board of Governors and the Senate.

Be a part of the two governing bodies that oversee how your OCAD University is operated. Like two chambers of a heart, the Board of Governors and Senate, have their own beats to pump the lifeblood into your University. Join in this integral leading function of your University!

Eligible candidates may submit nomination for these positions until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.

Student positions available are:

Board of Governors

  • Two (2) Undergraduate Student positions, each for a two-year term.

Senate

  • One (1) Graduate Student Senator position for a one-year term.
  • Three (3) Undergraduate Student Senator positions, one from each Faculty, each for a one-year term.

Students are invited to attend an Information Session with FREE PIZZA on Monday, September 12, 2016 in Room 1115 (11th Floor Boardroom), 230 Richmond Street West from 12:00 noon-2:00pm. (Drop in anytime during these two hours)

Elections will take place electronically from September 21 to 26, 2016.

On Wednesday, June 26, OCAD University welcomed the Honourable Peter Bethlenfalvy, MPP, Pickering-Uxbridge and president of Ontario's Treasury Board. Minister Bethlenfalvy met with OCAD U President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sara Diamond and Jaime Watt, Chair of the OCAD U Board of Governors.

Today, Rideau Hall announced 83 new appointments to the Order of Canada. Among them is OCAD University President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sara Diamond. From the accompanying citation, “President Diamond has contributed immensely to the country’s arts, cultural and digital industry landscape. An accomplished and prolific artist, researcher and administrator, her revolutionary work bridges the fields of art, design, science and technology, notably in her current role as President and Vice-Chancellor of OCAD University (OCAD U), and previously at The Banff Centre. Under her visionary direction, she has positioned OCAD U as an eminent leader, one that champions innovative teaching and research, and fosters opportunities for Indigenous education and collaborative partnerships.”

OCAD University's President Dr. Sara Diamond participated as a guest speaker at the Canada Future Forward Summit on a panel titled, The Education Equation: How should Canada's education system evolve for the future? Organized by The Globe and Mail, in partnership with McKinsey and CIGI, the two-day forum brought together some of the nation’s leading thinkers to discuss Canada's future.
As part of its National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration, OCAD University is launching the Wapatah: Centre for Indigenous Visual Knowledge. OCAD University positions decolonization as the first of six key principles of its Academic Plan on a path toward transformative education. In light of its commitment to expanding Indigenous knowledge, OCAD University is thrilled to further facilitate the collaborative work of researchers and artists by providing a dynamic platform for creativity.
