Nuit Blanche draws more than 18,000 visitors to OCAD University

Tuesday, October 4, 2016 - 4:00am

A little drizzle didn’t stop huge crowds from attending Multiplex - an all-night essay film marathon and viewing party that took over much of the first and second floors of the university. Participants viewed works by students, faculty, local and international artists and designers.

Multiplex was created by the curatorial collective The Modest Eyes, including Maiko Tanaka, Patricio Davila, Maggie Chan, Preethi Jagadeesh and Onyeka Igwe.

In addition, as a founding partner of Nuit Blanche, OCAD U was one of the 10 venues of city-produced installations, part of the exhibition Militant Nostalgia curated by Paco Barragán. LA artist Nicola Verlato created The Merging, a mural in the Great Hall depicting spaces inhabited by various figures, inspired by two of Toronto's prominent historic figures: philosopher Marshall McLuhan and mathematician Donald Coxeter. Visitors downloaded an augmented reality app that allowed them to move within the mural.
