OCAD U issues RFP for Creative City Campus

Monday, August 8, 2016 - 4:00am

OCAD University solicits proposals for the services of an architectural design consultant team to lead the design and implementation of Creative City Campus (CCC), a project that will, among other things, revitalize and expand the core of the institution’s campus along McCaul Street in Toronto. The RFP was issued on Monday, August 8, 2016.

The project’s main goal is to envision a 21st century healthy, accessible, and creative learning environment with studio-based, experiential and collaborative learning. Cutting edge media, technology and state-of-the-art digital fabrication will be integrated throughout the facility to enable pedagogy, as well as social interaction and new ways of thinking, making and doing. The project prioritizes OCAD U’s core values of sustainability, diversity, inclusivity, indigeneity, invention, entrepreneurship, and heritage. These values must underpin the program development, design process and implementation of all project components, and be integrated throughout all stages of design thinking, stakeholder engagement, planning and project management.

The project will develop OCAD U’s identity as an exceptional post-secondary art and design institution. In the course of infusing and responding to these core values, the project will address deferred maintenance at the university and significantly improve the efficiency and performance of the facility. It will involve 150,000 sq. ft. of new construction and renovation combined, with a total construction cost of $40 million.

The RFP Review Committee will work through the fall to evaluate and select the design consultant team. The final selection is expected to be announced after approval by OCAD U’s Board of Governors in December 2016.
