Tuesday, February 18, 2020

The Artist Project Contemporary Art Fair and The Centre for Emerging Artists and Designers are excited to announce Andre Baynes as the 2020 Recipient of the Artist Project Career Launcher.

Andre receives a $2,000 grant towards the realization of his project, An Alter, for the 13th annual Artist Project Contemporary Art Fair; held at the Better Living Centre, February 20 to 23, 2020.

Andre Baynes is an artist and designer using storytelling, open-source technology, and a range of materials to explore possible futures. His West Indian cultural roots in food, flora, and folklore act as the basis for work that is informed by the complex history of human migration and settlement. Andre’s skill in industrial design, interactive media, and amateur horticulture give him the ability to create works that invite viewers to become immersed in an extensive speculative world.

As part of the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, the Career Development office supports the professional development of emerging OCAD U creative talent. The Career Launchers program offers unique, high-profile opportunities developed in partnership with industry leaders in order to help senior students and new graduates start their professional practice after school.

The Artist Project will welcome its 13th year with the most exciting show yet this February 20 to 23, 2020 at the Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place, 195 Princes’ Boulevard, Toronto. From collectors and curators, to gallerists and designers, visitors can explore and discover works of art from over 300 top contemporary artists from Canada and abroad.
