Support Florence 2017/2018

Following a meeting with students who had been selected to participate in the Florence Program for the 2017/2018 academic year, as well as some of their parents, President Diamond and the Executive Team have committed to proceeding with the program this year.

Earlier in April, the 2017/2018 Florence Program was suspended for review as part of the budget reduction process. Students and some parents proposed raising funds to allow the program to proceed this year. The President and Executive Team met with this group to listen to their proposals.

Impressed by the students’ and parents’ passion and commitment to fundraising for this cause, the Executive Team has agreed to proceed with the program this year. The Development office will work with a coordinated group of students and parents to support and extend the fundraising campaign already launched by the students.

Parents and other supporters have also volunteered to support the effort to gain enhanced provincial government funding for OCAD University. 

The program will be suspended for 2018/2019 while we conduct a thorough review.

The OCAD U community mourns the passing of alumna Martha Robinson last week, at the age of 56. Martha was an accomplished painter, illustrator, and writer whose rural background informed her remarkable investigations of animal life over her career as an artist and scholar.

Acclaimed animator Richard Williams passed away at the age of 86 in Bristol, England. Born and raised in Toronto, Williams attended the Ontario College of Art from 1949 to 1953. He later moved to Britain, where he worked to this day.

Storytelling Co-design Workshop with ESL high school students - Spring 2019
The Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) at OCAD University has received a $1.2 million grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in open education. The grant will support the IDRC’s Flexible Learning for Open Education (FLOE) project, which pushes the understanding and practice of equitable inclusion within open teaching and learning by providing resources to personalize how students learn and to address barriers to learning. 
Located in Kensington Market, Ignite Gallery is currently recruiting IWSP-eligible Student Monitors for the Fall/Winter term to serve as front-line staff informing visitors about exhibitions and public events, to supervise the gallery, responsible for opening and closing procedures and assist with install takedown and special events programing.
