FORM TOGETHER: Work by students and alumni of OCAD University

PATCH, in partnership with OCAD University's Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, facilitated a call for artists for an exhibition on hoarding surrounding the FORM condo development site on McCaul Street. More than 120 OCAD U students and alumni submitted work in response to an exhibit concept developed in collaboration with Tridel, one of Canada’s leading developers.

President's Message

While spring has been slow to come, the end of this academic year seems to have arrived in a flash – GradEx 103 is just two weeks away! Our eye-catching posters, featuring works from last year’s medal winners, are all over the neighbourhood including the subway. It is going to be another amazing exhibition with 23 program medal winners, the most ever. Thank-you to all of our faculty, academic administrators, staff, and entire community for the support that you have provided for our students this year.

Facilities Unit Review

Unit reviews of all units within the Vice-President, Finance & Administration portfolio are being undertaken over the next three years in order to flag possible organizational and efficiency issues and to assess alignment of stakeholder service expectations with unit responsibilities and performance. Facilities Planning & Management was the first unit to be reviewed due to the impending retirement of its Director, Peter Lashko. The primary observation of the review report was that Facilities is charged with doing a lot with very little. The overlap of some unit functions with responsibilities of other units was also noted.

CCC Renovations Commence! May 21 to 24: Potential Noise Disruptions

With the initiation of the Creative City Campus renovations to the Fabrication Studios, DRPT Studios and roof work, OCAD U’s contractor Eastern Construction has mobilized on site.

Starting next week (May 21 to 24), hoarding will be constructed in the lobby of the main building to enclose the main area of work. Signage and hardware will be installed at other locations as required. Demolition will begin on Levels 1 and 4, and preparatory work will begin on the roof.

President’s message

Welcome to Daylight Saving Time. While we’re all probably still feeling the effects, it is nice to leave work in daylight again. We are making our way out of a tough winter of record-breaking snow and cold.

Because of the severe weather, we had to reschedule the talk by alumnus, artist and graphic design icon Burton Kramer. I’m grateful to Burton for making himself available again on April 17 to share his amazing insights on the graphic design industry in Canada. I hope you can attend.

Promoting INVC

Martin Iskander, Video Producer and Photographer on OCAD U’s Marketing & Communications team, produced a promotional video for the Indigenous Visual Culture program (INVC). The video profiles a current INVC student, Kaia’tanoron Dumoulin, who talks about her experience at OCAD U and encourages others to apply. Dumoulin recently exhibited her work at her first solo exhibition, Too Much Not Enough, at the Ada Slaight Gallery.
