Information Design, Wayfinding Systems, Typography

Chris is a licensed professional engineer and graphic designer specializing in the visualization of complex information streams. He has been a member of the Faculty of Design since 2011, and currently teaches Wayfinding & Information Systems. Previous courses taught include Advanced Typography, Typography 2 (Structures), Communication: Surface, Object, Space, Graphic Design 1, and Typography 1.

Before attending design school, Chris worked in North Carolina as an aerospace engineer, designing and manufacturing navigation and control surface positioning systems for US Navy fighter and electronic warfare aircraft. His ongoing interest in graphic design and typography, combined with an intense discomfort with the ethical implications of his role as part of the North American military/industrial complex, eventually led him to the Ontario College of Art + Design, where he graduated with distinction from the graphic design program in 2008.

Chris currently holds the position of Director, Information Design, with the Business Analytics practice group at multinational accounting, consulting, and professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. As the leader of PwC's information design team, he focuses on providing creative direction, managing complex design projects, and developing new business opportunities. His multi-disciplinary team of designers and visualization analysts uses information design, data visualization, and structured typography best practices to analyze and interpret data, provide high-level insights, develop clear and focused solutions to complex business problems, and communicate key messages on behalf of corporate, institutional, and government clients.

When not at PwC or OCAD designing stuff, art directing other people's stuff, or critiquing stuff that students, junior designers, and data analysts give to him, Chris can usually be found lifting weights, practising yoga, or pontificating on one or more of the following subjects: postmodernism, politics, soccer, punk, post-punk, and electronic music, cultural theory, art history, and single malt whisky.
