Area(s) of Expertise

Printmaking, Drawing, painting

Becoming an artist I consider not so much a career choice as the recognition of an inner compulsion: one is aware that creating art is and always will be an essential, vital part of oneself. Those artists who throughout history have defined a certain culture have traditionally learned their craft from experts as students or apprentices. Discussion and the exchange of ideas with their teachers and peers has helped shape their artistic views and philosophies.

Nowadays, this process mostly takes place at an educational institution such as OCAD, where I've worked as a faculty member for the past 24 years.

Any good academic institution is itself a work in progress, fostering the growth and affecting the future of all those who study and teach there. It cannot succeed without a substantial extracurricular contribution by its faculty, who must also conduct an ongoing dialogue with those in management and administration, so as to keep all aspects of academic life evolving in ways that benefit the students.

As a passionate practicing artist, I am convinced that the continual exploration and development of new ideas is crucial, and I have a need to communicate them to my utmost potential. In addition to painting, my chosen medium of visual communication is printmaking, in all its varieties, but lithography in particular.
