Steve Quinlan began teaching at the Ontario College of Art (as it was then known) in 1978 in the then Communication & Design Department. Prior to coming to the College he worked for Paul Arthur and Associates (pictographic and wayfinding), IMS (UofT), Dizitti and Associates (architect) and Mimura and Associates (animation). He also exhibited at the Prince Arthur Galleries, Gallery O and the Arts and Letters Club.
Since arriving at the college, and teaching in a part-time position for ten years, he has worked for Images Art Direction and Design (director of typography), Southey + Associates (creative director), Quinlan Eugen (partner) and Macrae Design (designer / creative director). He has also carried on a freelance practice over that time.
In addition to his design pursuits Steve Quinlan has also owned and operated a downtown Toronto nightclub and restaurant (1975-81).
