FORM TOGETHER: Work by students and alumni of OCAD University

PATCH, in partnership with OCAD University's Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, facilitated a call for artists for an exhibition on hoarding surrounding the FORM condo development site on McCaul Street. More than 120 OCAD U students and alumni submitted work in response to an exhibit concept developed in collaboration with Tridel, one of Canada’s leading developers.

President's Message

While spring has been slow to come, the end of this academic year seems to have arrived in a flash – GradEx 103 is just two weeks away! Our eye-catching posters, featuring works from last year’s medal winners, are all over the neighbourhood including the subway. It is going to be another amazing exhibition with 23 program medal winners, the most ever. Thank-you to all of our faculty, academic administrators, staff, and entire community for the support that you have provided for our students this year.

Facilities Unit Review

Unit reviews of all units within the Vice-President, Finance & Administration portfolio are being undertaken over the next three years in order to flag possible organizational and efficiency issues and to assess alignment of stakeholder service expectations with unit responsibilities and performance. Facilities Planning & Management was the first unit to be reviewed due to the impending retirement of its Director, Peter Lashko. The primary observation of the review report was that Facilities is charged with doing a lot with very little. The overlap of some unit functions with responsibilities of other units was also noted.

The first area consists of conducting a review of Prefix’s programming history in order to contribute to preparations for the gallery’s twentieth anniversary. The second involves assisting with the research, development and realization of Prefix’s upcoming exhibitions and public programming.

Call for Applications - Nuit Rose 2019

NUIT ROSE is now accepting submissions from OCADU emerging artists, performers, writers, curators, and collectives interested in presenting work and projects for NUIT ROSE EMERGING ARTIST SECTION at the sixth edition of the festival, which will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2019.

President’s message

We are in the midst of the coldest (and thankfully shortest) month of the year, but the daylight hours are getting longer, which somehow lifts the spirits. For the first time in six years, we had to close the university three times due to winter storms. Thanks to the Inclement Weather Team for letting us know in a thorough and timely manner. The safety of our community is essential to OCAD U; we don’t take this kind of action lightly.

Unfortunately, because of the severe weather closure we had to postpone the President’s Speaker Series talk featuring graphic design legend, recent Order of Canada recipient and former OCAD U professor Burton Kramer, in conversation with filmmaker Greg Durrell. We hope to bring them back later this spring.
