For This Land: Inside Elemental

2Ro Media’s Mohawk creators and producers Jackson Twobears and Janet Rogers offer a fourth edition to the growing series of media installation/performance offerings.

DateWednesday, June 21, 2017 - 2:45pm to Saturday, October 28, 2017 - 2:45pm

As part of the For the Land series, 2Ro Media’s Mohawk creators and producers Jackson Twobears and Janet Rogers offer a fourth edition to the growing series of media installation/performance offerings. This series of videos is inspired by Sioux philosopher Vine Deloria Jr. He says, “Indigenous world-views are spatial because they privilege a spiritual relationship to ‘place’ and, therefore, tribal spiritual sensibilities emerge from attention given to the landscape and geographical orientation — as the elders say, we write our stories, our histories on the Land.”

Inside Elemental will bring our four known elements (fire, water, earth and air) and their representations into Onsite Gallery including a fifth element by way of ‘man’ extending beyond the self and honouring the extensive reach of nations which leads to the self. As with previous incarnations of For This Land, the duo will produce a multi-channel media installation, which may include video mapping with projections reflected on the walls, floor and ceilings. Inside Elemental works with concepts around bringing the outdoors, indoors and erasing objects, elements and traditional understandings which separate the two.
