2014 IAMD Thesis Exhibition by Humboldt Magnussen
Please join the Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art, Media and Design Program and the Graduate Studies Department in celebrating the IAMD Thesis Exhibition of MFA candidate Humboldt Magnussen.
"Go Hard Or Go Home" is an exhibition containing Humboldt's recent work that reflects on own identity and understanding of traditional versions of masculinity displayed in sport. He has created sculptures, photos and performances that counter and subvert ideas of manliness. Through ornamentation and the insertion of his own own queer body into a hyper masculine context he attempts to expand existing notions of masculinity, into more inclusive ones.
Bio: Humboldt Magnussen is an emerging artist from Saskatchewan who is currently completing his Master’s of Fine Arts degree at OCAD University in the Interdisciplinary Art, Media, and Design Program. He completed his BFA with distinction at Concordia University, including a year abroad studying at the Malmo Art Academy in Sweden.
His exhibition history includes shows at the Hermitage Museum in Russia, the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon, as well as Toronto’s Xpace Cultural Centre, where he currently works. He has performed as part of Regina's Queer City Cinema’s Performance Festival, Art Spin bicycle art tour, Art Now at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, and the 35th Rhubarb Festival.
Throughout spring and summer 2014 graduating candidates from OCAD University’s Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art, Media and Design (IAMD) program will present their thesis work in galleries across Toronto. These exhibitions explore a wide variety of interdisciplinary subject matter and media including, drawing & painting, video, performance, ceramics, printmaking, digital technology, sculpture and installation.
