In a collaboration between OCAD University and the Yonge Street Mission, a group of second year Industrial Design students at OCAD U were challenged to design marketable textile goods to be sewn and distributed by Regent Park’s Creative Women’s Collective. The immigrant Collective collaborated and critiqued, and helped the students expand the innovation and design of the Collective’s product base. The products’ reach are directed to a larger market in the City, with sales to create enhanced financial opportunities for the women in this community. The Collective’s hope is to positively contribute to their family’s – especially their children’s – livelihoods. Only by approaching community differently, can we expect to achieve different results
