On September 16, 2017 (noon to 6 p.m.), OCAD University will be holding a public Grand Opening of its newly expanded art gallery, Onsite Gallery. Onsite is the flagship professional gallery of OCAD U and an experimental curatorial platform for art, design and new media. To launch this new cultural space, we have a week of events culminating in a gallery grand opening and celebration on Richmond St. W. The street party will feature live performances and presentations by well-known Indigenous artists and remarks by political and community leaders (MP Adam Vaughan and Councilor Joe Cressy).

Acclaimed CBC host and arts reporter, Amanda Parris, will lead the afternoon’s events, which include onstage presentations and performances by:

  • DJ Classic Roots
  • Duke Redbird
  • Janet Rogers
  • Long Branch
  • Charlena Russell
  • Red Sky
  • Logan Staats

About Onsite Gallery
The new 8,000 square-foot location at 199 Richmond St. W. will house a state-of-the-art exhibition space and will reactivate the OCAD U collection. It will be a community hub serving the university and the general public, with the goal of fostering social and cultural transformations. Follow our photo blog to get a sneak peek of our progress!

OCAD U's Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to partner with Tridel, one of Canada’s leading developers, and PATCH, a social enterprise operated by the award-winning STEPS Initiative, to feature the work of students and alumni in a high-profile public display of art across the construction hoarding bordering Tridel's FORM condominium on McCaul St (adjacent to OCAD U). As creative talent in the fields of art and design, we request your submissions for this unique paid exhibition opportunity. Submission deadline - Nov. 24th, 11:59pm

Two Concert-talks by pianist and electronic composer John Kameel Farah
Participants will learn the basics of Arabic Calligraphy letter forms. They will be introduced to basic techniques and words which they will practice using the brushes, ink and calligraphy pens.
Ban This Series: Tiger Spirit A documentary by Canadian filmmaker Min Sook Lee
Endorsing the important cultural value and independent nature of the Award, and at the suggestion of Clayton Paterson, Toronto based artist Istvan Kantor took upon the task to bring the award to Canada. Together with Eldon Garnet, artist and writer, and Kitsuné Soleill, artist and performer, they formed the Acker Awards Toronto in March 2017.
In this our inaugural year of the Design Residency, OCAD U will host architect, designer and urban researcher Kunlé Adeyemi of NLÉ as the 2017-2018 Design Resident. 
This hands-on workshop facilitated by Dr. Lynne Milgram will provide research proposal writing support for your upcoming CGS-M (SSHRC, NSERC) and Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) application(s). Please come prepared with specific questions related to your research projects.
