Location

Room 284 100 McCaul St. Toronto, Ontario

OCAD U inaugurates Colloquium Series in Media Studies and Research 2013-2014

Please join us for the first of our biweekly colloquia, bringing together faculty members, practitioners, and graduate students engaged in media-based research at OCAD and select institutions in North America.

“ProprioMedia” is a coined concept invoking the associations of the Latin term proprius -- meaning “one’s own,” “individual,” or “characteristic” – in the larger context of media theory and practice. It also refers to the “characteristic,” that is to say, the particular and the distinguishing. Viewed in this light, the series makes a call to imagine media in proprietary and proprioceptive terms, at once individual and individualizing.

Speakers:

James Cahill, Assistant Professor of Cinema Studies [U of T] “Improper, Inappropriate: Corporeal Reflections on Stolen Bodies in Martin Arnold’s Cartoons”

Selmin Kara, Assistant Professor of Documentary and New Media [OCAD] “Primordigital Cinema”
