OCAD U recently announced the 2020 Faculty and Staff Awards, celebrating the many achievements of all who contribute to the OCAD U community. While the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the university from holding its annual appreciation events for faculty and staff, colleagues were invited to view and acknowledge this year’s award recipients on the OCAD U website.
The university also acknowledged our retiring faculty and staff members, colleagues marking a milestone in their years of service and academic administrators who have completed their terms.
Also recognized and remembered were the contributions of our dear members of the OCAD University community that we have lost over the past year. A new award was added on behalf of the Marketing and Communications team - The Christine Crosbie Heart of Gold Award, in honour of Christine Crosbie, who passed away suddenly, in 2019.
OCAD U students win top prize in international gaming interface design competition
A team of OCAD University students took the top prize in an online, international team challenge to create an app that connects, welcomes and informs new gamers using the user experience design and protoyping tool Adobe XD. The competition was held in collaboration with game publishing giant, Activision.
Congratulations, Team ‘Daily Grind’ from OCAD U, comprised of fourth-year Graphic Design students Felicia Shane Evangeline and Kate Jung, named as the winner for their submission, Nexus.
OCAD U Industrial Design student projects earn industry recognition
Three new graduates of OCAD University’s Industrial Design (ID) program have been recognized by the industry for their thoughtful approaches to developing innovative new products. Rocket is an annual thesis project competition for Ontario’s graduating industrial designers held by the Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario (ACIDO). The OCAD U students competed against ID students from three other post-secondary schools in Ontario, and their successes led to OCAD U being the top-scoring school in the competition.
Congratulations, SingYu Lam, Claire Wu and Reid Howe!
COVID-19 Printables awarded Silver IIIDaward
Dr. Sellen, Canada Research Chair in Health Design, OCAD U, and her team worked with a group of physicians at assessment Centers and ERs in Toronto and Alberta to create the Covid-19 printable project. The project has received a silver IIIDaward award
The printable project with self-management resources, available in more than 27 languages, includes three patient handouts: ‘self-management of COVID-19’, ‘self-isolation’, and ‘why am I not being tested.’ Centers and clinics are now downloading and adapting these all over the world, and new languages are added daily, and more printables are in the works. The resources are updated daily, based on public health guidelines and can be edited by staff at hospitals and clinics to adapt to their local guidelines and protocols.
The project has been awarded a silver award and the COVID-19 award in the Emergency/Safety category, and a COVID-19 award.
Congratulations, Dr. Kate Sellen and team!
