Dear Colleagues:
With warmer weather on the horizon, many of us are gearing up for a rewarding and eventful spring at OCAD U.
The new year kicked off with some exciting news and events. The University announced the selection of Ana Serrano as the new president and vice-chancellor, beginning July 1. A global leader and visionary in digital media, I’m confident that Ana will steer OCAD U into a new era of expansion and innovation.
Congratulations to Onsite Gallery curator Tom Barker and the Gallery team, on its latest exhibition, CodeX: playable & disruptive futurist eArt ̶ a thought-provoking group exhibition of digital art that explores human-machine relationships. Many thanks to all the contributors to this exhibition, including OCAD U faculty members Jason Baerg, Nick Puckett and Cindy Poremba, and OCAD U alumna Samantha Fickel. If you haven’t had a chance to see the exhibition, be sure you do. It runs through April 25, 2020.
Thank you to all who attended our recent Town Hall, where we discussed a number of current topics, including: Flow: Curricular Transformation project, Black cluster hire in the Faculty of Design, Ignite Imagination Campaign, government relations, Strategic Mandate Agreement (SMA) and the university’s financial position.
I offer a warm welcome to OCAD U’s first International Curatorial Resident Bonaventure Ndikung. While in Toronto, Dr. Ndikung will participate in multiple engagements that will include visits with OCAD U classes, local studios, artists and designers, as well as public talks and dialogue with multiple cultural leaders.
Lastly, I’d like to thank our team at OCAD University that is closely monitoring the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). We are posting regular updates that are found here.
I look forward to seeing you at the many exciting events in the coming months and thank you for your continued enthusiasm and dedication.
Warm regards,
Dr. Sara Diamond
