Writing Across the Curriculum Student Publication

Call for Editorial Board Members

 

The Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Student Publication is seeking OCAD U students who are interested in writing and publishing to join our editorial board. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to develop a collective vision into a final student-led publication through collaborating with faculty advisors from Art, Design and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

 

The goal of the WAC Student Publication is to support the development of writing for art and design education, and to foster and support English language learning by providing a venue for culturally and linguistically diverse students to publish critical and creative writing inclusive of a range of student abilities, year levels and disciplines. This publication will allow students to showcase how writing can be used iteratively in the creation of written and visual art, art history, design and curatorial work. The responsibility of the editorial board is to collaboratively direct the focus of the WAC student publication. The WAC Student Publication aligns with the OCAD U Academic Plan and its focus on inclusivity and transforming the student experience.

 

A total of four student positions are available, including Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor and Assistant Editors. The publication will feature a variety of writing and creative works, including sketchbook/process book writing, images and research; journaling; reviews of artist talks and gallery visits; short review essays; poetry; zines; transcripts of podcasts/digital storytelling; excerpts from a graphic novel and many other forms of writing as making. Students who are interested in writing and publishing are encouraged to apply.

 

 

The terms of the WAC Editorial Board are as follows:

 

  • Members of the WAC Editorial Board will participate in the collective governance of the publication by developing a vision for the publication in collaboration with the WAC Specialist and the WAC Faculty Advisors, as well as establishing and maintain guidelines for preparing and submitting written and creative work, and policies on conflict of interest.
  • Members of the WAC Editorial Board will attend editorial board meetings, WAC Steering Committee Meetings and will contribute to the development of a brief report on publication activities (including peer review and publication processes) for presentation to the Editorial Board and the WAC Steering Committee.
  • Members of the WAC Editorial Board will develop guidelines for the review of submissions and will serve as reviewers for creative work and writing, a minimum of two reviews per year and will carry out reviews of high quality in a timely manner.
  • Members of the WAC Editorial Board will work collaboratively to create a yearly expense report and proposed budget for the WAC Steering Committee.
  • Members of the WAC Editorial Board will develop a WAC Publication website and an annual call for submissions that has a theme and focus for student creative and written work.

 

 

Eligibility: The WAC Editorial Board is open to all OCAD U students. WAC Editorial Board Members must be a student in good standing at OCAD University for the 2017-18 year, with a strong interest in writing, and the process of review, editing and organizing a publication.

Priority will be given to students who are able to commit to meeting once per week throughout the Fall and Winter terms, approximately 5-7 hours /week.

 

 

Application Process: Interested students should submit the following:

  1. A one-two paragraph summary, describing the following:
    1. Your OCAD U program
    2. Your interest in writing (this could be writing of any kind – creative, academic, studio, etc.)
    3. Your interest in serving on the WAC Editorial Board for the 2017-18 academic year.
  2. A list of the days/times that you are available Monday to Friday.
  3. An up to date resume.
