Friday, January 15, 2016 - 5:00am

:: DATA MATERIALIZATION STUDIO :: RESIDENCY PROGRAM ::

Aesthetic Temporalities: On the Times of New Media

The Data Materialization Studio at OCAD University is seeking three artists to participate in a part-time residency program, running from January to May. Participants will receive work/studio space and access to the fabrication labs at 230 Richmond for the duration of their tenure, as well as a $500 honorarium. They will be expected to meet monthly with other researchers and artists involved with the studio to discuss readings and reflect on how their practice relates to the studio’s current focus on ‘temporality.’

These residencies will serve as the preliminary phase of a larger practice-based research program that seeks to explore the shifting temporal grounds of contemporary digital media technologies and aesthetics. For more information about the project and studio, please visit the Data Materialization Studio website at: http://research.ocadu.ca/datamaterialization/project/aesthetic-temporalities-a-practice-based-approach-to-the-times-of-new

The ideal candidate will be a student at OCAD University, either pursuing graduate study or in the last two years of their undergraduate degree.  They will identify as a “media artist” of some sort, employing digital technology within their practice either as a creative tool, underlying material, and/or metaphorically as their object of critical reflection.  An explicit consideration of temporality in their work is unnecessary, but candidates should have an interest in reading and discussing complex theoretical texts concerning the intersection of digital media technologies, temporality, and aesthetics.

If you are interested in applying, please submit the following materials before January 15th, 2015:

-       A one-page cover letter that details:

o    The role of digital technology in your practice/work.

o   A cursory description of the project that you hope to work on while involved as a resident at the Data Materialization Studio.

o   Why you are interested in participating in this residency program.

-       A concise portfolio of previous work OR a link to your website

-       An artist statement

-       A curriculum vitae

Submissions can be sent to: Ashley Scarlett - ascarlett [at] faculty.ocadu.ca
