Info Session --Teaching at Aboriginal Literacy Camp

Learn about Frontier Colleges' Summer Literacy programs in northern Ontario and how you as an OCAD student can participate. Meet two students who participated in 2007.
A challenging and life-changing teaching experience can be yours this summer (June 24 to August 27, 2008, as a Camp Counsellor. Literacy is a fundamental right and helps empower people to make changes in their lives through non-formal learning. If you agree and have the right stuff ' the 'resilience and creativity in engaging the community, and involving community members in the camp curriculum' ' then you and the people at Frontier College need to connect.

You will be working in remote areas, living in camps which 'aim to promote a love of reading and learning while strengthening the English literacy skills of children and youth (between the ages of 6 and 15) living in isolated and/or fly-in-only First Nations communities in Northern Ontario.'

OCAD is partnering with Frontier College, and will be developing an Arts and Crafts component to the summer reading camp program.

Frontier College Information Session

The Aboriginal Summer Literacy Camps began as an initiative of The Honorable James K. Bartleman to promote a love of reading and learning amongst First Nations children and youth between the ages of 6 and 15, living in isolated and/or fly-in reserves in northern Ontario.

Frontier College is seeking individuals to fill the positions of Camp Counsellor in the Aboriginal Summer Literacy Camp program.

There paid positions may also be put toward OCAD U credits for the course INVC 3B01: Bringing Visual Literacy to Aboriginal Communities.
