Information Session - Artist in Community Education, BEd, Queen’s University

Oct 16, 11AM - 12.30PM

Room 258, 100 McCaul Street.

Alan Wilkinson, Undergraduate Advisor, Faculty of Education, Queen’s University will meet with all interested OCAD U students to promote the 18-month bachelor’s in education in Artist in Community Education (ACE) at Queen’s. He will be accompanied by Cassidy Tsang, a former OCAD U student who completed the ACE program at Queen’s and is currently teaching in her own art school in Toronto.

Artist in Community Education (ACE) is designed for practicing artists in visual art, music, drama and creative writing and qualifies graduates for Ontario College of Teachers certification.

In addition to the required curriculum courses of the regular program, all ACE students participate in arts focused courses that shape their experience while at the Faculty of Education.

The three-week Alternative Practicum offers an opportunity to gain experience in a concentration and placements are typically completed outside the public-school system. By selecting a placement in a non-traditional educational, artistic, or blended arts-educational setting, teacher candidates broaden their knowledge and understanding of the arts and arts education. With guidance and support, ACE candidates are expected to initiate, design and develop an individualized alternative practicum. You can do the Alternative Practicum anywhere in the world if it is related to your program. Provided travel fellowships can help you get there. Previous candidates have acquired placements at, for instance, the National Arts Centre, the National Gallery, the Canadian Opera Company, the Stratford Festival, the Shaw Festival, Random House Publishing UK, Whitney Museum of Art NYC, the Lincoln Center Institute NYC, and historical re-enactment festivals in Italy.

Graduate School Information Days

Tuesday, September 23, 2008 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

GRADUATE SCHOOL INFORMATION DAYS

Thinking about graduate school? Each year, the Campus Life & Career Services area, in cooperation with the Financial Aid & Awards office and the Faculty offices, hosts three Graduate Information Days. These sessions cover general approaches to identifying and finding a good fit, applying to, and financing graduate education. This year’s event includes two overview/information days, and one day dedicated to visits from a number of Graduate Program representatives from varied schools, including schools in the UK. These representatives will be talking about their specific programs.

It's never too early or too late to plan, so all students are welcome. Third- and fourth-year students with an interest in pursuing a master’s degree are strongly encouraged to attend.

The 2008 event days will be:

Tuesday, Sept 23, 10:00 to 12:00(General Information Session)
