For more than eight years, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services (MBFS) has been partnering with OCAD University through philanthropic and sponsorship opportunities.  Recently, OCAD University students were given a unique opportunity to develop a wallwork design for their Mississauga-based office.

Students were invited to propose an installation for the wall space outside the Human Resources offices at MBFS, while considering the particulars of the site, including the physical and social qualities of the office space. They were also asked to consider the cultural and social nature of the space and the surrounding area. MBFS compensated all students who submitted proposals for materials, in addition to artist fees for the winner and runner-up.

Syl Teszeri’s submission, Ambassadors, was selected among 14 entries. A Drawing & Painting student in his final year, Syl describes his work as “a wallwork of the Ambassador Bridge as a metaphor for the people and culture of MBFS, celebrating diversity in harmony with common ideas and ideals.”

The runner-up was Chaewon Kim, with her proposed Secret Aquarium: “A site-specific collage installation that explores through colour, the aesthetic value of plant and cultural diversity at MBFS in Canada.”

A true advocate of the arts, the generosity of MBFS has benefited our current students and helped shape the success of our graduates.

OCAD U’s Drawing & Painting students benefit from the generous support of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services throughout their graduating year. Each fall, MBFS organizes the ‘Experiencing Perspectives Art Exhibition’ at their offices and publishes the annual year-end publication showcasing the work of the Drawing & Painting graduates. A presenting sponsor at OCAD U’s annual Graduate Exhibition, MBFS also sponsors the OCAD U medal winner in Drawing & Painting.
