Facilitated by the Writing & Learning Centre
Due to the limited number of spaces, you must be able to attend both days of COMPASS in order to register. Lunch is provided for both days.
COMPASS is an in-depth and interactive two-day event for new first-year students. Through short workshops, hands-on activities, games and social opportunities, we aim to help you transition to your first year at OCAD U. Sessions may cover topics such as:
- first year: what to expect
- strategies for success
- accessing available resources and support
- managing your time and energy
- communicating with your instructors
- critique: the students’ perspective
- note-taking, reading, and writing strategies
- life on campus: Q&A with upper year students
COMPASS is open to any first-year student (to a maximum of 70 students) but may be especially helpful for students who have had a break in their schooling, who are the first in their family to attend post-secondary, or who don’t have a background in art and design education (such as through their high school).
Due to the limited number of spaces, you must be able to attend both days of COMPASS in order to register. Lunch is provided for both days.
