Niki Lederer was born in London, Ontario and raised in Vancouver. She received her BFA from the University of Victoria and her MFA from Hunter College in New York City. Her sculptural practice combines east and west coast sensibilities, with formal and conceptual approaches to art-making. She explores a love/hate relationship to consumer culture, manifested in her found object sculptures created from repurposed consumer plastic and discarded umbrellas. This fall Niki’s umbrella-based work is included in the 12th Annual Portal: Governors Island (formerly Governors Island Art Fair) and her re-purposed plastic bottle sculpture is featured in a solo exhibition at the Pelham Art Center and Wolfs Lane Park (NY). Niki currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
