“We don't realize that, somewhere within us all, there does exist a supreme SELFIE who is eternally at peace.” Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

'All By Myselfie' explores the complex culture of selfies, images taken of the self by the self. The selfie is inescapable online, securing its status in digital culture beyond a simple trend and into a full-blown phenomena. Whether the selfie is empowering, therapeutic, performative, archival, narcissistic, or validating, it has become the ultimate symbol of a constructed and consumable self projected into digital space. This show looks beyond the face value of the online selfie to its private, personal beginnings. Whether or not a selfie is uploaded, the act of taking a selfie reveals the intrinsic human desire to understand oneself.

Featuring work by Reenee Dykeman, Alexandra Pearlhaddad, Kori Baum, Camille Jodoin, Shelby Jane Miller and Jenna Crook.

Organized by Jenna Crook.
