PARTy Time! Learning Lab

The OCAD U Student Gallery will be running a series of three Learning Labs (aka pARTies) for SickKids Hospital in January and February of 2016. Each Lab will be focused on a different medium: collage, polymer clay and material arts.

The pARTy TiMe Learning Lab will provide students with a participatory, community-based learning experience as they will be working between gallery and hospital spaces to create and lead a series of dynamic, inclusive, intensive, art-based labs. Participating students will both learn and demonstrate how creativity, design and art can benefit mental health and emotional wellbeing. This will be a cross-disciplinary, educational project that will facilitate mindful, creative and inclusive art-based learning and connect students to the medical sector in a meaningful way.

For each Learning Lab, Marnie’s Lounge at SickKids Hospital will be transformed into a colourful, inviting, exuberant environment where patients and their family members are invited to stop by, hang out, make art together and leave feeling infused with positive vibes, new creative skills to liven up and personalize their hospital rooms. The purpose of these events is to bring joy and imagination to the hospital, and to design a space that feels magical and FUN.

It is our hope that this project will lead to other meaningful collaborations between OCAD University and SickKids Hospital.
