A Scotiabank Nuit Blanche independent project with alumna Paulina Wiszowata
Challenging the precious notions of painting and sculpture, I infiltrate the art community by selecting detritus from other artist's work, only to transform it into art-objects and then distribute to the viewer. This ephemerality in my work establishes a dematerializing value system determined by the inter-personal relationships between artist, object, and viewer. Replacing the object with a photograph of this gesture I transform the object into a concept or idea.
By generating an effortless appearance with calculated gestures, I critique the very idea of myself as an artist through self-reflexivity. I see myself as both in and outside of the art community. Through the exchange of objects and ideas I turn individuals into performers and they become my material alongside the objects and ideas.

A solo exhibition by Anda Kubis
p|m Gallery is pleased to present Transplendent, a solo exhibition by Anda Kubis. Converse to the expectation that a digital image is cold and impersonal - a romantic flamboyance pervades these exquisite pieces. Kubis deftly combines traditional abstract painting with digital gestures to create artwork reflective of a contemporary culture where our digital and analogue lives meld. Kubis' signature handling of colour and luminosity continues to emanate in these new paintings and works on paper.
Born in Toronto, Anda Kubis initially studied at OCA, moving to complete a BFA at NSCAD and an MFA at York University in 1992. She is an Associate Professor and former Chair of Drawing and Painting at OCAD University. Anda has also taught at the University of Lethbridge and at York University.

An exhibition of works by Dorie Millerson
Dorie Millerson, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Design, will be exhibiting three pieces in the Rijswijk Textile Biennial 2013 which opens this week. A catalogue is available with text written by art historian Frank van der Ploeg.
“Twenty international artists will be exhibiting the ‘state of the art’ from the world of textile art. Their work displays a virtuoso balance between the latest technology and traditional handwork. The combination of tried and tested textile techniques such as weaving, quilting and embroidery with photography, video and digital technology results in a contemporary visual language. Furthermore, what is particularly striking is the strength of engagement with social themes among a number of the exhibitors: a powerful message cloaked in soft textiles.”
