Changes to OSAP increase flexibility for students

Tuesday, September 1, 2015 - 4:00am

The Ontario Student Assistance Program is undergoing modernization to keep up with growing student needs.

At a media conference at OCAD University’s Open Gallery today, Reza Moridi, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, highlighted some of the modifications intended to make the program more flexible and easier to use. Among the changes:

  • Students no longer have to report their vehicle as an asset when applying for financial aid.
  • The first $3000 in a student’s assets are exempt from the assessment, such as money in bank accounts, mutual funds and tax-free savings accounts.
  • Student aid will be indexed to inflation to keep up with the increase in student costs.

See the media release to find out more about the changes to OSAP.
