American Illustration 36 Winners

Congratulations to 4th year student, Andrew Watch, who's won the $4,000 Society of Illustrators Scholarship and is set to be exhibited in New York's Museum of American Illustration with 6 fellow OCADU students. In addition to this, his work was selected to appear in the coveted American Illustration 36 anual, and the work of 2nd year student, Toko Hosoya, and 4th year students, Sarah Alinia Ziazi and Dalbert Vilarino, have been chosen to appear permanently on AI’s archive.

From 10,000 submissions, the jury selected only 380 images total (professional and student) to appear in the book and represent the best pictures from 2016.

This year’s distinguished jury included Deanna Donegan, Art Director, The New Yorker;  Kayla E., Editor-in-Chief and Designer, Nat. Brut;  Nathan Huang, Art Director, The New York Times;  Francesco Izzo, Graphic Designer, Associate Art Director, Nautilus;  Jaya Miceli, Art Director and Graphic Designer, Simon and Schuster / Scribner;  Matt Vee, Designer,  Penguin / Viking;  Jing Wei, illustrator and Illustration Director, Etsy; who selected 300 pieces based on the quality of technique, concept and skill of medium used. 

Scholarship awards were granted to only 25 students whose work was deemed "The Best of The Best". OCADU students claimed 5 of those scholarships!

The Opening Reception and Awards ceremony will take place on Friday, May 12th, 2017.

Book launch events that celebrate the winners will be held in New York City on November 8-9, 2017.

The Illustrator's Process:  Featuring Jon Todd Each display features a different artist from OCADU's Illustration faculty and takes a look at their personal approach to the creative process.

OCAD University has been awarded $1 million from the Government of Canada, toward its $3 million project to refurbish its historic property: the George Reid House.
OCAD University has revealed the names of the recipients of the 2017 Alumni of Influence Awards. The Awards celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of OCAD University alumni locally and around the world. From illustrating the cover of the New Yorker to making social change through anti-oppression activism, they exemplify the values and skills that are developed at the university.
OCAD University congratulates Catherine "Kiki" Delaney, on being the second woman to be inducted into the Investment Industry Association of Canada's (IIAC) Hall of Fame. Founder and president of Toronto-based Delaney Capital Management Ltd., Delaney was OCAD U’s third Chancellor who served two terms, from 2011 to 2017.
