National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women takes place on Wednesday, December 6.
Students, faculty and staff will observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. to remember the 14 female engineering students who were murdered at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal on December 6, 1989.
The 14 women were killed in a gender-based act of violence. They were:
- Geneviève Bergeron
- Hélène Colgan
- Nathalie Croteau
- Barbara Daigneault
- Anne-Marie Edward
- Maud Haviernick
- Barbara Klucznik Widajewicz
- Maryse Laganière
- Maryse Leclair
- Anne-Marie Lemay
- Sonia Pelletier
- Michèle Richard
- Annie St-Arneault
- Annie Turcotte
December 6 is also a day to commemorate the missing and murdered Indigenous women, trans-women and women across the world whose lives have been harmed or lost to gender-based violence.
In the days leading up to December 6, join the conversation on how we can all take steps to speak up against acts of gender-based violence through the #MyActionsMatter social media campaign.
