EVI HUI @ HXD CONFERENCE

Friday, March 9, 2012 - 5:00am

The Waiting room of 2020 is place of comfort and assurance. It is a worry-free and welcoming environment for patients and health-care professionals.

When you enter the space, you are greeted by a nurse who helps you check-in and recalls your health records by scanning your microchip implant in your arm. Your records appear on their tablet and they make notes of the reason for your visit. They then direct you to a living-room-like waiting area where you can choose between open seating or enclosed private seating. The chair you sit in measures your vital signs which is displayed and sent to your digital health record.

The calming and homey waiting space is naturally lit by large windows with views of nature. Patients can access a garden while waiting and still retaining their place in order.

Entertainment is available at arms length, it is built into your seat like a passenger seat on an airplane. You can watch your favourite movies or learn about health though the touch screen while you wait. The screen also displays your approximate waiting time and keeps you informed of any changes. The open seating area is lounge-like and patients are encouraged to socialize and support each other.

During waiting, you may become hungry and a selection of healthy food is available on site. When the doctor is ready to see you, the nurse comes to greet with a smile and walks you to the doctor.

The future waiting space is a healing space that reduces patient anxiety and promotes well-being.
