OCAD U’s foundry is supporting a group of young artists from Cape Dorset by casting their sculptures in aluminum. The work is featured as part of the AGO’s exhibition Every. Now. Then: Reframing Nationhood. The gallery is inviting visitors to help complete the artwork Future Snowmachines in Kinngait by purchasing one of a limited edition of aluminum snowmobile sculptures made in collaboration by Canadian artist collective PA System, Embassy of Imagination and Kinngait Youth (Cape Dorset, NU).
“The artists brought a 3D-printed version of the models and cast them in aluminum for them,” said Nick Hooper, Director, Studio Facilities. “The plan is to sell off the casts and have the proceeds return to the community for the purchase of much needed supplies.”
While working at OCAD U, the artists were also filmed by the CBC for a documentary that is part of The Collective, a CBC Arts digital project that invites artists to tell their own stories.
