Monday, October 4, 2010 - 4:00am

(Toronto — October 4, 2010) This October, OCAD University (OCADU) will present a series of events and exhibitions in conjunction with Printopolis, a 4-day international symposium on contemporary printmaking presented by Open Studio.

hybrid
October 13 to November 6
Reception: Thursday, October 14 , 5 to 7 p.m.
The term hybrid is an idiom present in our culture defining fusion in everything from vehicles to a tea rose. Respectively, it has come to the fore in art production and is exemplified by the participating artists in this exhibit who are OCADU faculty, alumni, students, and mentors. Wood, crocheted sculptures and other media interact within the print based practices of Hannah Enkel, Doug Guildford, Libby Hague, Luke Painter and Lisa Visser. Curated by Christine Swiderski.

OCADU Student Gallery
285 Dundas Street West, Toronto
416-977-6000 Ext. 262 | cswiderski@ocad.ca
Hours: Wednesday to Saturday 12 to 6 p.m.
Extended hours during Printopolis: Friday, October 22, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Mass Hypnosis
October 22 to 25
Reception: Friday, October 22, 6 to 10 p.m.
Part of the Printopolis Gallery Hop on October 22
Artists: Andrew Bailey, Michael Comeau, Morgan Criger, Jesjit Gill, Alicia Nauta, Jacob Horwood, Matt King, Jeff Garcia, Andrew Zukerman, Reid Jenkins and Alexandra Mackenzie. Curated by Philippe Blanchard.

Mass Hypnosis is an experiment in printmaking as a collective, immersive and
time-based medium. For the duration of the show, the participating artists (OCADU printmaking students and alumni) will cover as much of the gallery space as possible with their screen-printed patterns. Printopolis artist-in-residence Stefan Hoffmann will also participate, printing directly on the gallery windows. Pulsating, coloured lights will light the resulting collective mural, animating the coloured prints to music and live performances. An experiment in maximalism and neo-psychedelia, Mass Hypnosis hopes to create an audio-visual space where printmaking can be re-imagined.
